Binary Vases

Binary vases are all about contrast.

Hand built, the vases are constructed with two overlapping and contrasting slabs of white stoneware clay: the dark slab is covered with layers of burnished black slip (liquid clay) and etched with linear sgraffito markings revealing the white clay underneath, the light slab features etched lines inlaid with black slip giving a negative version of the sgraffito decoration.

The light side has an unglazed, smooth matte surface and the dark side features my signature surface combining the the smooth sheen of the dark slip and the sgraffito lines which are highlighted with a clear, gloss glaze which makes them shine, reflecting light.

Internally the pieces are fully glazed with a clear gloss  glaze (fully food safe).
